Electric Bikes Brisbane Knowledge Base
At Electric Bikes Brisbane, your safety is our priority. That’s why we only stock e-bikes with certified battery systems from trusted brands such as Bosch, Shimano, Focus, Kalkhoff, Orbea, and Riese & Müller.
This guide outlines how to safely use, charge, store, and transport your e-bike battery to minimise risk and maximise lifespan.
Modern e-bike batteries are lithium-ion systems, designed for high performance and long range. While very safe when used correctly, they do store large amounts of energy, so it’s important to follow manufacturer guidelines.
All e-bikes sold by EBB use high-quality, certified battery systems that have been tested to international safety standards.
UL 2849 certification (common in Bosch systems) ensures compliance with the highest electrical safety standards.
Integrated battery management systems (BMS) prevent overcharging, overheating, and over-discharging.
Physical and electronic protection against impacts, vibrations, and electrical faults.
Bosch has a stellar safety record, with tens of millions of batteries in use globally and a reputation for:
Crash-tested casings
Fire-resistant cell enclosures
Advanced thermal management systems
To ensure safe charging:
Use only the manufacturer-supplied charger.
Never use third-party or incompatible chargers.
Charge in a cool, dry area away from flammable materials.
Avoid charging in direct sunlight or on soft furnishings.
Do not leave batteries on charge overnight or unattended for extended periods.
Plug the charger directly into a wall socket.
Avoid using extension cords or power boards.
Let the battery cool before charging after a ride—especially in hot weather.
When storing your e-bike or battery:
Store indoors in a dry, well-ventilated area between 10°C and 25°C.
Avoid extreme heat or cold. Don’t leave batteries in a hot car, garage, or near heaters.
If storing for long periods, charge to around 50–70% capacity (not full or empty).
Check and top up every 3 months during long-term storage.
When transporting your e-bike:
Remove the battery if possible and transport it separately in a padded, secure location.
Avoid impact or crush damage. Never pack heavy objects on top of the battery.
Check airline or courier rules if transporting by air or freight.
Contact EBB immediately if you notice:
Excessive heat during charging or use
Swelling or deformation of the battery
Strange smells, smoke, or fluid leaks
Charger or battery port damage
⚠️ Do not attempt to open, modify, or repair a battery yourself.
A well-maintained battery can last 500–1000 full charge cycles, or 3–5 years.
Avoid deep discharges (letting the battery hit 0%).
Keep terminals clean and dry.
Bring your battery in for a health check as part of your regular service.
Only use OEM (original equipment) batteries from approved brands.
Old batteries can be returned to EBB for safe recycling via accredited programs.
